In this past year, I have designed programs about starting a not-for-profit organization; empowering homeless substance abusers; healthcare reform; cultural competency, and an online game on STD prevention. I am passionate about my profession because I am engaged in creative problem solving, continued learning, and it allows me to contribute beyond myself. And although I can log some pretty long hours when I?m on deadline, when I leave work, I really leave work. From hiking in Rock Creek Park or hitting the National Gallery of Art because I need to experience and reconnect with God and beauty, to eating at a favorite ?hole in the wall? with friends sharing both a fabulous meal and the joy of each other?s company, to scuba diving with sharks . . . For me, life is about learning, experiencing, taking risks, and forging real connections. So, while I might not ever again need to know the time it takes to get from boarder to boarder on a chicken bus, it is my mission to experience and enjoy life so fully that my friends and family members will be able to tell hilarious and heart-felt stories at my memorial. Seriously, I?m looking forward to sharing the fulfillment, joy, and safety that come with love.
